Last Day of Term

Visited yesterday which was the penultimate day before the summer holidays. Everybody was in a great mood at the school as it was so close to having almost 7 weeks off, not for acs though as the project improvement works start in earnest now. Once we had done the normal rounds of what everybody was up to over the break we got down to ensuring we had clarity of the projects that where happening during the summer. Spent some time speaking with our Technical Services Manager as well to check all in hand.

We’ve got a busy schedule with new computers and thin clients going into 2 ICT suites, new Air Con units being installed into the server room, along with a new APC UPS system.

There is also several other projects that will enhance the server infrastructure performance and off course the normal system maintenance routines that will happen.

Our full time engineer will also be able to spend some time at acs house to catch up with some training, interaction with our other engineers etc. – I’ve also promised to take him out to lunch at my expense !! (must have been a moment of weakness….)

We also did something a bit different with the Business Manager and recorded a video case study – more information to follow! We also sent some flowers to her as a way of saying thank you!

We rounded the week off on another high with the news we have won another large managed services contract with another school which is great news all round!!

Improve the infrastructure

Had a great meeting on Wednesday with our contact onsite, our full time engineer also located permanently on site and one of my colleagues who us a technical consultant. We discussed lots of areas that we can improve on the network.

We discussed wireless, network switching, power protection and summer projects. We also started to discuss the information that is being generated from www.pic365.co.uk on the performance of the network.

My next visit is on the 9th July 2009 when we will discuss the pic365 reports in more detail.

Power Cuts over the weekend

I was scheduled for a meeting regarding wireless this morning with our client.
I had engaged with a colleague here at acs who specialises in wireless (among many technical specialism’s) and we had developed a solution to take the school to the next level.

Before our meeting started it was very reassuring to hear from the customer that they had received at call at 7.30am that morning from our helpdesk to advise of that fact and we also had an engineer already working on an issue that had occurred as a consequence.

The wireless meeting went well and we have some small changes to make – it also led into a conversation regarding some of the other area’s of infrastructure which we are working on in terms of the 3 year development plan.

1st Day Back After Half Term

I'm the account manager for an upper school based in bedfordshire that have a managed service with us.

I visit the client every 2 weeks to liase with our full time engineer on site who deals with day to day issues and also speak with the school business manager who is my direct contact.

This morning was the 1st first visit I have made after a half term break, and our IT engineer was very busy this morning with a higher than normal incident rate - however appeared to have it all under control.

The data cabling works we carried out during the period went well and we are now in a position to start connecting the small number of apple mac's the school has onto the system. Before stuart and our managed service team do this they need to test some additional software to ensure the students don't have access to anything on the network they shouldn't have, as the techie guys tell me there different to intel machines in terms of the security.

I've come away with some actions that I need to speak to Microsoft about and will be back again in 2 weeks to ensure we still on track and review the service levels
